
The Albanological Research Institute and the Department of Linguistics of Shkodra University organised the promotion of the monograph entitled: "Historical Grammar of the Albanian language", written by Prof.dr. Kolec Topalli.
Prof. dr. Kolec Topalli is one the most well- known researchers in the field of history of the Albanian language. In 2008, he was elected as a member of the Albanian Academy of Sciences. Currently he is the scientific coordinator of the Albanological Intercollegiate Studies Centre. He has published more than 180 works (monographs, articles and essays). He has also been a collaborator of 30 scientific journals at national and international level in five languages. Mr. Topalli has also participated in many national and international symposia and has lectured on the history of the Albanian language at different national and international universities and research centres. His most important book entitled: "Phonetics of the Albanian language", was honoured by the "Albanian Excellence 2007" and "Price of Albanology 2008". Since 2006 he has been working particularly on historical grammar of Albanian Language, a field to which this work belongs to.
There were present in this promotion: Mrs. Nora Malaj, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Education, Mr. Gudar Beqiraj, President of the Academy of Sciences, Mr. Maxhid Cungu, Chairman of the Council of Shkodra District and other important local and academic personalities.
Prof. dr. Tomor Osmani had the opening speech and he highly estimated this work. This opinion on this work was also supported by Mrs. Nora Malaj, Prof. dr. Gudar Beqiraj, Prof. dr. Seit Mansaku and Prof. dr. David Luka who expressed their highest consideration in their speeches.
Rector of Shkodra University “Luigj Gurakuqi ", Prof. dr. Artan Haxhi held his speech, prepared in collaboration with Prof. as. dr. Tefe Topalli, entitled "The role of syntax in a historical grammar". On his speech he stressed that this work constituted an outstanding contribution in the context of studies in the field of diachrony. The promotion went on with speeches prepared by the memebers of the Linguistic Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
After these spechees, Prof.dr. Kolec Topalli, the author of this monograph, thanked all the organizers and sponsors of this event. He concluded by saying: “Only books have made me possible to survive to the dictatorship,"
At the end there was showed the documentary film "Two lives" dedicated to the author of the book, Mr. Kolec Topalli.
